MP’s food poverty ‘shock’

EAST LOTHIAN MP Fiona O’Donnell has described reports showing food poverty is on the rise as “shocking”.

A study by the Citizens Advice Bureau indicated the number of people seeking their help with food bills had more than doubled in the last two years and that half of them were in work. Another report by Save the Children found that one in six children in the poorest families are going to bed hungry.

The Labour politician said Prime Minister David Cameron “didn’t appear to grasp the severity of the situation” and hoped an East Lothian foodbank would go some way to ensuring “no-one goes to bed hungry”.
