MP’s anger over benefit

Edinburgh East Labour MP Sheila Gilmore has accused the Government of passing up the chance to fix the new incapacity benefit test, which is wrongly declaring people fit for work.

She said the Government’s response to a review of the Work Capability Assessment had failed to make improvements.

She said: “The rate of successful appeals is 40 per cent, which is much higher than you would expect, and suggests the test still isn’t working.”
