Moving tales from history

A BOOK containing testimonials given to people who wanted to move to a Midlothian parish has been released.

Published by the Scottish Genealogy Society, Newbattle Parish Testimonials 1657-1671 gives an insight into how people had to apply to move between areas in the 17th century.

Testimonials were issued to individuals to show that the bearer was an upright citizen and unlikely to cause trouble or be a burden on the parish.

A number state the reason for coming to Newbattle was to marry a parishioner.

The booklet is available at www.scotsgenealogy.com.
