Mound shop unit sells for half a million

A PROMINENT shop unit on The Mound has been sold in a £500,000 deal.

The owner of a well-known Old Town bar has snapped up the North Bank Street property, which currently houses the "Just Scottish" art and gift shop, which is now to become an online-only operation.

The private investor, who did not want his identity revealed, is to treat the property as an investment and is looking to find a new occupier for the 2,077sq ft unit.

Margaret Milne, who previously owned the unit and ran Just Scottish, said: "I have been pleased with the way in which the sale has been handled with no disruption to my business.

"After trading successfully for many years as a gallery and a gift shop, I look forward to moving my operation online."

It is not yet known whether the new owner has any plans to develop the property.

Will Biggart, a surveyor at property firm Ryden, which acted for Ms Milne, said: "We are delighted with the sale price that we achieved for our client and this shows that the historic part of the city, with its high influx of tourists throughout the year, continues to appeal."
