Motorcyclists in city face up to theft risks

MOTORCYCLISTS in the Capital suffer the worst theft rate of their bikes in Scotland and the second worst in the UK outside London, according to an insurance company.

The Edinburgh postcode suffered the 12th highest number of motorbike thefts in Britain, with the top 11 places all coming from the English capital.

The figures were released by Carole Nash, the UK's biggest motorcycle insurance specialist.

Its survey found that the EH postcode suffered Scotland's highest theft rate, closely followed by Aberdeen's AB code.

Dave Bowcock, Carole Nash's operations director, said: "Our research has, for the third year running, found Edinburgh bikers facing Scotland's worst regional theft rate.

"It highlights once again not just that local bikers need to take sensible security precautions, but that delivery of secure motorcycle parking and other pro-biking measures should be prioritised."

The analysis of 117 main UK postcodes found that south-east London had the UK's highest theft rate.
