Morrice brands rail link as vital platform for economy

LIVINGSTON MP Graeme Morrice has highlighted the importance of the planned High Speed 2 rail link being extended to Edinburgh and Glasgow to ensure that West Lothian does not miss out on future economic opportunities.

He urged Transport Secretary Justine Greening to set out a timetable for discussions with the Scottish Government and others on bringing high-speed rail to Scotland, and for a clear commitment that Scotland will be included in the project.

Mr Morrice said: “Many local businesses and individuals have told me how important they believe it is that high-speed rail should come to Scotland.

West Lothian has a strong record of attracting major businesses to locate in the area, but it is reliant on excellent transport links to be able to compete with other parts of the UK.

“I want the government to work with Scottish ministers to set out a clear agenda, so that West Lothian does not miss out on potential economic benefits.”
