Morgue toll passes 7000

THE city mortuary has dealt with more than 7000 dead in the Capital during the last five years, new figures have revealed.

A total of 7017 bodies arrived at the mortuary in the Cowgate, between January 2007 and December 8 last year.

None of the burials required a funeral organised by the city council as relatives were traced in every case. Only one body was today being stored at the mortuary while attempts are made to trace family members.
