More prison for convict

A CONVICT caught with a mobile phone in prison has had four months added to his sentence.

Patrick Smith, 32, had the illegal telephone stuffed down the front of his shorts in privately- run Addiewell Prison in West Lothian, a court heard.

John Barclay, prosecuting, told Livingston Sheriff Court that two prison officers had opened his cell to deliver recorded mail.

He said: “Protruding from the waistband of his shorts they saw a mobile phone. They asked him to hand it over and there was a very minor physical altercation before he did.”

Smith, whose earliest release date for the six-and-a-half year sentence he is serving was August 24, pleaded guilty.
