Missing journalist’s car found in Knoydart

SEARCHES are being carried out for missing Highland journalist Clive Dennier on the west coast after his car was found in a remote part of the region.

His Volkswagen Polo car was traced in the Knoydart area on Thursday morning.

Northern Constabulary confirmed that following extensive searches across his car was located near Kinlochourn, west of Invergarry.

A spokesman said: “The car was found by police as part our coordinated search strategy.

“As a result of this development, organised searches of the area have now commenced. At this time two mountain rescue teams, police search dogs are deployed to the search.”

Mr Dennier’s family have been updated.

Clive, 50, from Inverness has not been seen since the weekend with family and friends becoming increasingly concerned for his safety.

He was reported missing when he failed to appear for work at the Strathspey and Badenoch Herald in Grantown on Monday.

His disappearance is described as out of character.

Members of the Skywatch Civil Air Patrol also carried out an aerial search on Thursday for Clive and his car.

They covered 250 nautical miles checking main car parks as well as out of the way places including following the track back from Sandwell Bay.

Flying at 1,000ft in good weather conditions in an area covering Brora, Cape Wrath and Ullapool.

One of Scotland’s top mountaineers and broadcaster Cameron McNeish has urged climbers and hillwalkers to keep a look-out for a missing Highland journalist over Easter weekend.

Mr McNeish, one of the best known hill walkers in Scotland and respected outdoor commentator, said: “During his career Clive has often written about climbing accidents and hill walkers who have gone missing. It’s cruelly ironic that he is now the subject of a massive search .

“I would appeal to all hill goers this Easter weekend to be particularly vigilant.”
