Missing Aberdeenshire schoolboy found safe

A MISSING eleven year-old schoolboy at the centre of a massive search in Aberdeenshire was found safe and well in the early hours of this morning.

The search for eleven year-old Leon Selbie was called off shortly after midnight after he was traced following a major search involving an RAF search and rescue helicopter with thermal imaging equipment, police search teams, and specialist dog units.

Local volunteers had also gathered at a local community centre to offer their help in the search but were not required.

The alarm had been raised after Leon was reported missing from his home in the Fyvie area yesterday afternoon.

Concern for the youngster had grown as temperatures in the area plummeted as appeals for help to trace the missing boy were posted on local social networking sites.

He was found safe and well around 12.25am at a nearby farm.

Police Scotland had earlier appealed for the public’s help in finding the missing schoolboy who had been described as of average height for his age, very slim, with short straight blonde hair and black framed glasses. Her had last been seen wearing a big thick olive green ski jacket, blue jeans, blue jumper and white trainers.

Police Scotland announced shortly before 1am today: “Police Scotland are pleased to advise that the missing person was traced safe and well at approximately 00:25.The young boy was found safe and well at a nearby farm. Members of the public and press are thanked for any and all assistance provided during this enquiry.”
