Minister praises scheme to help elderly be independent

A SCHEME retraining elderly people to perform daily household tasks has been praised by the Scottish Government.

Public health minister Shona Robison visited the council team in charge of the Reablement project, helping people who receive home care regain some independence.

It is understood that she will look at the service to see how it works, with the possibility of it being expanded beyond Edinburgh. Health and social care leader Councillor Paul Edie, who describes the initiative as his finest political achievement, said: "The feedback from service users has been extremely encouraging and over 20 Scottish councils have visited us to see the benefits."
