Military Tattoo contest photos go on display

STUNNING photographs from the Edinburgh Military Tattoo are to go on display in the city centre following a public competition.

Organisers asked spectators to send in pictures of last year's sell-out event at Edinburgh Castle. Among the colourful images are pictures of Switzerland's Top Secret Drum Corps and the She Huo cultural troupe from the Capital's twin city of Xi'an in China.

Now the winning entries will be on display at the St James Shopping Centre from Tuesday, 20 April. They are all the more impressive since they were taken from the stands using only standard photographic equipment.

Entries were received from around the world, with the first prize of 500 going to Frank Britten. Louise Ireland and Andrew Cobley won second and third prize respectively.

Another competition, with cash prizes worth 900, will run for this year's Diamond Jubilee Tattoo in August.
