And they have also revealed they wish to donate to the memorial set up in Mikaeel’s name.

In a card to the Tenants and Residents in Muirhouse (TRIM) they said: “We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the help and support we have received from the community in Edinburgh and especially TRIM.

“In particular we would like to thank the parishioners of St Andrews Church, Edinburgh for their efforts, support, thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

“Our family would also like to express our appreciation to those who have initiated the memorial fund for Mikaeel, especially TRIM, Deacon Helen Fisher and the community of North Edinburgh.

“Our family would like to donate towards the Mikaeel Kular Memorial Fund.”

The family also thanked people from Edinburgh who joined in the hunt for Mikaeel after he was reported missing from his home in Edinburgh last month.

More than 200 volunteers from the community joined the emergency services in a huge search operation which ended when his body was later found in Fife.
