Midfielder befriends left-winger

CONTROVERSIAL football star Joey Barton has struck up a friendship with George Galloway.

The English Premiership star and the former Glasgow MP had dinner together at London’s exclusive Groucho Club, where the pair discussed a campaign to raise a quarter of a million pounds for a football stadium in the Palestinian Territory.

Mr Galloway said that Queen’s Park Rangers captain Barton, who was jailed for six months in 2008 for assault, was a reformed character.

Mr Galloway got in touch with the footballer after being impressed with his comments on Twitter about politics and philosophy.
