Memorial service for tragic Leon

A SPECIAL memorial service in memory of tragic five-year-old Leon Weston has been held in Sighthill.

The event, organised by the community council, saw more than 250 people turn out to St Nicholas Church, mostly parents with children who either knew Leon, or attended Murrayburn Primary, where he was a P1 pupil.

The youngster was found dead next to the body of his mother Michelle Stephen at their home in Parkhead Grove last week. A police investigation is continuing but it is believed Michelle took her own life after suffocating Leon.

At the service, young friends remembered Leon by writing special memories on cards which were then attached to 200 helium balloons and set off, along with Chinese lanterns, into the night sky.

They were released to the sound of a fire engine siren, as Leon had always wanted to be a firefighter.
