Medium stuck in river after pet rescue

A TRAINEE medium had to be rescued from the waters of the River Esk after she fell in trying to rescue her daughter’s dog.

Anne Milne, 65, from Musselburgh, had to cling to a rock for more than an hour before she was finally rescued.

The dramatic rescue took 12 firefighters and specialist equipment, to pull Anne and springer spaniel Ollie to safety.

Mrs Milne had been walking Ollie at the “Grove” woodland walk in Inveresk on Sunday when the dog slid down a steep bank into the water. She tried to lower herself down to reach the dog but was left stuck waist-deep in river water.

The retired council worker said: “He was caught in a thatch of ivy. I held on to some thick tree branches to lower myself down to him and then one of them broke and I landed in the water. The embankment was too high for me to climb back up.”

Two women passing by called the emergency services and police and ambulance crews also attended the scene.
