Medical research gets £45k prize fund for innovation

A LANDMARK medical research facility is offering a £45,000 prize fund to academics in a competition to uncover new business opportunities for the medical industry.

Edinburgh University staff and NHS Lothian employees are eligible for the awards, run by Edinburgh BioQuarter.

Dr Mike Capaldi, Commercialisation Director at Edinburgh BioQuarter, said: "Scotland has some of the best medical research in the world, and it's important we capture and commercially exploit this research. These awards will identify the great ideas that will form companies of the future."

Professor Jonathan Seckl, Director of Research at the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine within Edinburgh University, said: "As a world leader in clinical and translational medicine, it is vital that Edinburgh also leads the development of new commercial applications."

The competition closes on February 28 next year.
