Mechanic jailed for dealing cocaine while he was on bail

A MECHANIC awaiting trial for trafficking in cocaine went back to the trade when freed on bail, a judge heard.

Jeffrey Crombie, 42, was jailed for four years yesterday after he admitted being concerned in the supply of the drug between January 2008 and January this year.

Judge Lord Menzies added two months to the sentence because, for part of the time, Crombie had been on bail.

Advocate depute John Scullion, prosecuting, told the High Court in Edinburgh that after a tip-off police found 2,000 in cash and drug-dealing paraphernalia at Crombie's then home in the city's Brandon Street. They also found cocaine which could have fetched up to 6,800 on the street.

Crombie spent a week in custody before he was released on bail on 16 November last year.

Then, on 7 January, police found a red plastic bag containing cocaine with a street value of 18,800 which Crombie admitted was his.

Vincent Belmonte, defending, said Crombie had to continue dealing to repay his suppliers for the amount seized by police.
