The theft happened some time between 6.30pm on Saturday and 7.30am on Monday.

An outbuilding on Canal Road was entered and a quantity of marine flares removed from within.

A Police Scotland spoksman said: “We would like to issue a warning to anyone in possession of such an item of the dangers improper use could have to any individual using them without proper training.

“Also the unnecessary use of a marine flare could falsely alert emergency services and rescue teams therefore keeping them from dealing with an actual incident where their services are required.”
