The suspects fled the scene before police arrived and officers are now appealing for anyone who was in the area and witnessed anything suspicious to come forward.

All suspects are described as white, in their 20s, and they were all wearing Chino shirts and red ties. It is believed they left the scene in a white Ford Fiesta.

A police spokesman said: "We are asking anyone who was in or around Hanover Street about 1:30am and can assist with our enquiries to contact police immediately.

"Similarly, anyone who recognises the description of the men believed to be involved or the vehicle they used is also asked to come forward."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 0131-311 3131, or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
