‘Manipulative’ man sentenced for attacking former partner

A “MANIPULATIVE and controlling” man has been sentenced to 100 hours of unpaid work for assaulting his former partner.

Stuart Kyle was told by a sheriff that he also needed social work supervision for a year to address issues he had with his relationships.

Kyle, 25, from Whitburn, West Lothian, appeared for sentence at Livingston Sheriff Court yesterday.

He was earlier found guilty of assaulting Siobhan Yuill by striking her on the face to her injury at their home in September last year.

Passing sentence, Sheriff Derek O’Carroll told him: “I’m concerned that this is not the first time this sort of thing has happened involving the same victim.

“You used your own child as a tool in order to get what you wanted from your former partner. You then assaulted your former partner whilst the child was in the immediate vicinity.

“I want you to understand the gravity of that, although I don’t think imprisonment is appropriate in this case.”

The sheriff added: “I’m also concerned that even after I’ve convicted you, you deny the assault ever happened.”
