South African president Jacob Zuma said Mr Mandela had left Johannesburg for Qunu, accompanied by his family and medical and security personnel.
Mandela in trip to home village
Nelson Mandela, who turns 93 in July, is resting in his home village after his first trip since he was hospitalised in January.
