Man who embezzled £500,000 has only paid £140 - so far

IT WORKER David Dinham admitted embezzling £500,000 from the National Library of Scotland, but was only ordered to pay back £140.

However, that may not yet be the end of the matter.

The nominal amount of £140 – all he had in his bank account – could be increased if the Crown Office discovers he had hidden some of the proceeds of his crimes elsewhere. That is thought to be unlikely as Dinham, 34, who had already repaid £112,000 following a court order, is believed to have squandered the rest.

Lindsey Miller, head of the Crown Office’s serious and organised crime division, said: ”If Mr Dinham obtains any cash or assets in the future, the Crown can ask the court to recalculate the confiscation order.”
