Man sustains life-threatening injuries after head-on crash on A90

A 58-year-old driver was fighting for his life in hospital today after suffering a serious head injury in a head on crash in Aberdeenshire.

The man, who is still to be named, suffered “life-threatening” injuries on Monday night when his Vauxhall Vectra was involved in a collision with a Ford Fiesta on the A90 Peterhead to Fraserburgh road, near the Waterside Inn.

A spokesman for Grampian Police said: “The collision involved a dark grey Vauxhall Vectra motor car and a black Ford Fiesta motor car which collided head on. As a result of the collision the 58-year-old male driver of the Vauxhall Vectra suffered a serious head injury and was conveyed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where his injuries were described as life threatening.

“The 24 year old male driver of the Fiesta suffered a broken wrist. A further two passengers in the Fiesta suffered minor injuries and were conveyed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. The carriageway was closed for seven hours to enable a detailed examination of the crash scene.”

The spokesman added: “Enquiries are at an early stage and Grampian Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.”
