Man to stand trial on rape charge

A MAN is to stand trial charged with a raping a young woman in Glasgow’s West End.

Ryan Lafferty, 23, is accused of the sex attack in the city’s Lilybank Gardens near Ashton Lane on 19 May last year.

The allegation includes claims the woman – then 19 – was approached from behind, pushed to the ground and dragged to a flight of steps.

Lafferty faces a further charge that he sexually assaulted a second woman.

He is also accused of kicking a third female at the student union. Lafferty faces another allegation that he threatened to stab Callum Cyrus at a property in the city’s South-side on 13 May last year.

Lafferty, of the city’s Millerston yesterday pled not guilty to the charges during a preliminary hearing at the High Court in Glasgow. Judge Lord Uist set a trial for June this year.
