A MAN has received treatment for burns after apparently setting himself on fire at a medical centre.

The incident happened at the Townhead Health Centre, which is part of the Glasgow Royal Infirmary complex in the city, at 2pm yesterday.

Police and firefighters were called and the man was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Townhead, which has been closed following the incident, sees a lot of asylum seekers when they arrive in Scotland, but the background to the man’s injuries was not known last night.

A spokeswoman for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said: “We can confirm that police are investigating an incident that took place at Townhead Health Centre earlier this afternoon.

“As part of the investigation, Townhead Health Centre is closed.”

The spokeswoman added that it was anticipated all services at the health centre would return to normal by today, but that any of its patients who needed to contact a GP urgently should call the NHS24 service, on 08454 24 24 24.
