Man seriously hurt in ‘senseless attack’

Two men who carried out a “senseless attack” outside a bar are being hunted by police.

The 36-year-old victim was assaulted outside the Squirrel Bar in Stevenson Street, Glasgow, near the city’s Barras market, at around 9pm on Sunday.

He was taken to the nearby Glasgow Royal Infirmary suffering from a serious head injury. Police said the two suspects fled on foot in the direction of the city centre. No description is available of the attackers.

Officers are said to be gathering CCTV images to try to obtain more information and are appealing to any witnesses to come forward.

Detective Constable Andrew Hunter said: “This assault appears to have been a senseless attack with no motive. It’s imperative we find whoever is responsible and I would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area at the time to get in touch with us. It may be that someone in the bar witnessed the attack.

“Any information, however insignificant it may seem, could prove vital in helping us trace the two men responsible.”
