Man scarred for life in Lothian Road attack

A police probe has been launched after a man was left scarred for life following a serious assault on Lothian Road.

The attack happened when two men were challenged by three others for allegedly stealing something from a nearby building.

This sparked an altercation in which as a 23-year-old man received serious dental and facial injuries, and was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.

The incident occurred on Friday at around 9pm near The Hanging Bat pub.

Police are eager to trace the two men responsible and are appealing for information to assist in their enquiries.

The first suspect is described as a white man in his late 20s.

He had a slim build, fair short hair and a local accent. He was wearing a light grey top with a black backpack.

The second suspect is described as a white man in his late 20s to early 30s and was was around 5ft 9 inches in height with a medium to large build.

He had black or dark brown short hair, also spoke with a local accent and was wearing a black t-shirt ripped on the left shoulder.

Detective Constable Sara Hamilton said: “This was an upsetting incident, which has left the victim with potentially permanent damage to his face and mouth.

“We are eager to trace these men as soon as possible, and anyone with information is asked to contact police immediately.”
