A MAN has had his skull fractured in what police described as an unprovoked attack.

The 25-year-old was walking with a female friend when he was attacked by a man in High Street, Lanark, shortly after midnight.

He is in a “very serious” condition at Southern General Hospital in Glasgow.

The attacker is in his mid-20s, around 5ft 10in, slim and has dark hair.

Officers are checking CCTV footage and carrying out door-to-door inquiries.

Detective Sergeant James Quinn said: “This appears to be an unprovoked attack which has left a man seriously ill.

“I would appeal directly to the suspect to do the correct thing and come to police before the police come for you. I am also appealing to local residents who may have seen or heard something to get in touch.”
