Man rushed to hospital after smash

ONE person was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary after four cars collided in an accident on Melville Drive, right, just before 5pm yesterday.

An hour later, a man had a lucky escape after the car he was travelling in hit part of a tree that had fallen on to a road in Midlothian.

The incident took place outside the Stair Arms Hotel on the A68 in Pathhead. Firefighters freed the 42-year-old and he was taken to hospital suffering from spinal injuries and respiratory problems.
