Man racially abused by robbers in attack

Three robbers shouted racial abuse at a man during an attack in Lasswade at the weekend.

The 26-year-old had been walking towards Loanhead when the trio jumped out of a car, grabbed him, assaulted him and stole his belongings.

After the incident, which happened on Wadingburn Road on Saturday at around 8.10pm, the men went back into the small car and drove off towards Loanhead.

The driver is described as being in his mid 50s with short grey hair and with a chubby build. He has a full beard, which is also grey, a tattoo of an eagle on his forearm with the words ‘Ride to Live’ written thereon and spoke with an English accent.

The second man is white, in his mid 30’s, around 5ft 9in tall with a bulky build. He is bald, clean-shaven with green eyes and has a few stitches visible on his right eyebrow. He has a roundish face and spoke with an English accent.

The third man is around 19 years old and had been wearing a dark top.

All of the men were in a small dark green two-door car with the letters ‘GM’ written in black capital letters on the bodywork.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who can assist with their ongoing enquiries.

Detective Sergeant Vince Hughes said: “This was an unprovoked and distressing crime that left the victim badly shaken.

“A number of racial comments were made during the attack and we are we are particularly keen to trace all three men and or the vehicle as quickly as possible.

“I would ask anyone who was in the area at the time and who can assist with our enquiries to call police immediately on 101 or, alternatively the charity Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.”
