Man killed after being hit by car is named

POLICE have named a man who died after being hit by a vehicle near Ocean Terminal as 35-year-old Craig Williams from Clermiston.

Mr Williams was found seriously injured in a bus lane on Ocean Drive just after 2am on Sunday. He was transferred to hospital but died later that morning.

It is understood he fell asleep in the bus lane and was allegedly struck by a passing motorist.

The 25-year-old male driver of a silver Vauxhall Astra came forward to be interviewed by police and has been released pending further inquiries.

Mr Williams is believed to be from Cardiff and to have worked at the the Marriott Hotel.

Friend and co-worker Debby Wallword posted a tribute online saying: “Craig was a cheery guy with a big heart, his Welsh tones shouting ‘hya’ would always bring a smile to your face.

“Craig was a dedicated and valued member of the team at the Edinburgh Marriott Hotel, often going out of his way to help others, and he would always make us laugh. There was no room to feel down when you were in his company!

“Craig has left a huge gap in our hearts. He is much loved and will be missed dearly by all his friends and colleagues.”

She continued: “Craig, I will miss you lots and will always remember you.”
