Man jailed for horror attack on two-year-old

A MAN who left a defenceless two-year-old girl with severe injuries after subjecting her to a serious sex attack has been jailed for eight years.

A judge said Piotr Skut's attack was "incomprehensible".

Polish national Skut was supposed to have been looking after the child in the Townhead area of Glasgow on 17 April last year.

But instead of caring for the young girl, the 29-year-old carried out the attack.

During his trial Skut, of Strathmartine Road, Dundee, denied that he had hurt the youngster.

He claimed he had found the young girl bleeding after a possible fall.

However, a jury at the High Court in Glasgow last month convicted him of indecently assaulting the child to her severe injury.

Skut was sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday after background reports were prepared for judge Lady Dorrian.

She imposed an extended sentence on Skut, ordering him to be supervised in the community for a further four years after his eventual release from prison.

Skut, who has been assessed as posing a medium risk of reoffending, was also placed on the sex offenders' register.

Lady Dorrian told him: "This was a serious sexual assault on a two-year-old girl who suffered severe injury as a result.

"The circumstances of the offence are simply incomprehensible.

"The social inquiry report persuades me that this is a case in which I should impose an extended sentence for the protection of the public."
