Man jailed for dragging driver from moving bus

A MAN endangered passengers on a moving bus when he dragged the driver out of his seat onto the road, a court heard.

Robert Melrose junior kicked and punched bus driver Angus MacKenzie as the out-of-control double-decker kept going.

The bus mounted a pavement and crashed into the garden wall of a bungalow in Armadale, West Lothian, causing extensive damage.

Livingston Sheriff Court heard the only reason no-one was seriously injured was that the bus was travelling slowly.

Melrose, 22, of Bathgate, West Lothian, pleaded guilty on indictment to assault and culpable and reckless conduct which endangered life.

As he was jailed for 46 months, Melrose sniggered out loud then shouted “What? You’re kidding me.”

Sheriff Martin Edington told him: “I’ve come to the view that there’s no alternative in the public interest but to deprive you of your liberty.”
