The man is thought to have jumped to escape the blaze in a two-storey mid-terraced house on Coalgate Avenue, in Tranent, East Lothian, Fire Scotland said.

Fire crews from Tranent, Musselburgh and Haddington stations battled the fire, which broke out around 11.40pm last night and severely damaged the property.

The fire was extinguished with two hose-reel jets, eight breathing apparatus and a line of hose.
