Man in hospital after falling through roof during police chase

A POLICE chase turned to horror after a man fell through a garage roof.

Police officers were said to be pursuing the man when he climbed onto the roof on Gorgie Road in an attempt to escape them.

But he fell around 20 feet through a plastic skylight suffering serious injuries to his head and body.

He is reported to be in a serious condition in hospital.

It is believed police were chasing him following an incident in a nearby pub.

A police spokesman said: “Lothian and Borders Police can confirm that an investigation is underway after a man fell through the roof of a building on Gorgie Road, Edinburgh around 9.35pm on Sunday evening.

“The man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with severe head and torso injuries, and is currently in a serious condition in hospital.

“The man is believed to have been involved in a disturbance in the evening at a licensed premise on Gorgie Rd.

“Inquiries are currently at an early stage.”
