Man held after Glasgow shop worker stabbed to death

A MAN was arrested yesterday in connection with the murder of a woman stabbed to death in a city centre newsagent.

Fatou Saine, 33, left, was attacked where she worked last week in McColls, in Glasgow's St Enoch Square. Police were called to the store at around 11:55am last Tuesday, where they found the dead worker.

The shop was cordoned off while a forensic team examined the scene.

Another member of staff and some customers were in the shop at the time of the disturbance but they were not injured and did not need hospital treatment.

Shoppers watched in horror as a man rushed into the busy shop and stabbed Fatou.

It is understood the man then stabbed himself in the stomach.

Off-duty firefighters helped disarm the man and attempted to resuscitate Fatou.

Stewart Kinnon, 47, a regular in the store, said: "It's a terrible thing. She was a pleasant woman."

A 43-year-old man has been arrested and is being held in police custody. A report will be sent to the procurator-fiscal.
