Man denies hammer use in fatal brawl

A BOXER who was injured during a pub brawl in which a man died has denied he lashed out with a hammer while working as a bouncer.

Two men – Ross Tait, 22, and Ryan Cameron, 25, both of Musselburgh – deny murdering David McCardle, 40, claiming they were acting in self defence and to protect each other.

They also deny assaulting Steven Lindsay, 29, to the danger of his life at the Clubhouse Public Bar in Musselburgh, East Lothian, on August 12 last year.

At the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday, advocate depute Martin Macari, prosecuting, said: “We have heard evidence in this trial about a hammer being used in this incident.”

Mr Lindsay replied: “I heard rumours about that and it is a load of c***.”

The trial continues.
