The news comes as it emerged that the Bulgarian was already wanted by police after failing to keep bail conditions from an earlier attack where he knocked his victim's front teeth out with a rock.

A former work-mate, who lives in the Leith area of the city but asked not to be named said he used to work with Deyanov on a building site in the city.

Another friend of Deyanov's said he had spent a lot of time in the UK.

"Deyan worked in Edinburgh for a while, and he also spent time in Yorkshire," he said. "He mentioned he had a daughter living there but never spoke about the mum. He had a tattoo of his daughter's name on his neck."
