Man charged over murder in city park

A 47-year-old man has been arrested and charged with the murder of a man in a park on Saturday morning, police have said.

Ebrahim Aryaei Nekoo, from Edinburgh, was found in Saughton Park in the west of the capital at about 7:20am.

Mr Nekoo, 41, died as a result of his injuries and detectives from Lothian and Borders Police have launched an investigation.

Chief Inspector Richard Thomas said: “Crimes of this nature remain extremely rare in Edinburgh, where crime rates continue to fall.

“Nevertheless, when they do arise, it can be of great concern to our local communities and it is important we respond appropriately.

“High-visibility patrols will continue in the Saughton Park area and officers will engage with local residents to offer reassurance to the community.”

The 47-year-old man is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today.
