Police have launched an investigation after a man produced what is thought to have been a firearm, in a pub in Coatbridge.

The man produced the object after he was refused service at Shark’s Mouth Bar, on Bank Street, because it was closed.

He fled empty handed at about 10:50pm on Friday, police said. Nobody was injured, but a member of staff at the bar was left “extremely upset”.

Detective Inspector Duncan Hamilton said: “Someone on their way home from a night out may have noticed the man prior to, or following, the crime. I would appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to get in touch.”
