Man accused of murdering Nepalese student

A MAN appeared in court today accused of murdering a young Nepalese student before cutting off her head and hands with a cleaver.

The remains of accountancy student Khusbu Shah, 21, were discovered after she was reported missing by her husband in June.

Roshan Dantis, 30, is accused of murdering Mrs Shah after entering her flat in Dennistoun, Glasgow, where he is said to have seized her, bound her hands, legs and mouth with tape and repeatedly struck her on the head and body with a cleaver or similar instrument.

He is charged with restricting her breathing, compressing her throat and severing her head and hands with the cleaver.

Indian national Dantis is also accused of attempting to defeat the ends of justice by hiding Mrs Shah's body in a holdall placed in bushes behind the flat at 31 Coventry Drive.

He is said to have put her head and hands in plastic bags along with her clothing, some of his clothing, the cleaver and other items, and hidden them at a railway embankment in Dennistoun.

Dantis faces a third charge which claims that he tried to extort 120,000 from the victim's husband, Nagendra Shah.

He is accused of texting Mr Shah, falsely stating that his wife had been abducted and threatening to kill the couple unless he handed over his television and the money.

Dantis entered no plea when he appeared for a preliminary hearing before Lady Dorrian at the High Court in Glasgow today.

A trial was set for November 23 at the same court.

Mrs Shah had lived in Britain for four years and was recently a student at Glasgow Caledonian University, where she studied accountancy part-time.
