Man accused of making threats to Queen

A MAN has appeared in a Scottish court accused of threatening that the Queen “would die” and placing staff at both Balmoral Castle and Buckingham Palace in a state of fear and alarm.

Derek Milne, 37, of Loons Road, Dundee, was remanded in custody after he appeared on petition in private at the city’s Sheriff Court yesterday.

He was accused of alarming staff at both the Queen’s official residence in London and her holiday home on Deeside over the past two years and also causing fear and alarm to staff at Glamis Castle, the home of the Earl of Strathmore, one of Scotland’s leading aristocrats.

Milne appeared on petition before Sheriff Tom Hughes, accused of entering the gardens of Strathmore estate and approaching Glamis Castle and repeatedly questioning staff as to the whereabouts of the Earl of Strathmore.

He is alleged to have refused to leave when asked and repeatedly asked the name and address of an estate employee, placing them in a state of fear and alarm.

Milne is also alleged to have uttered threats to the Queen, sending her a letter and in which he stated that he, or she would die and judgement day beckons.

He faces a further charge that at Loons Road, Buckingham Palace, Balmoral Castle and elsewhere, he caused fear and alarm to employees of the Queen, persistently telephoned and demanded to speak to the Monarch, persistently sent correspondence to the Queen and persistently demanded information about her movements and demanded access to her diary.

He is also accused of demanding information about the Queen and her employees.

Milne was fully committed for trial and remanded in custody.
