Man accused of Dundee flat murder in court

A 21-year-old man has appeared in court charged over the murder of another man found in a block of flats.

Michael Given, 29, died at his home in Elders Court in the Lochee area of Dundee at around 12.20am on Sunday.

An ambulance was called but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mathew Pope, from Dundee, made no plea or declaration at Dundee Sheriff Court.

He was remanded in custody and is due back in court next week.

Mr Given’s sister, Claire Reid, paid tribute to her brother.

“Michael was a much-loved son, a true mummy’s boy. He was also a much-loved brother, doted uncle, father, nephew, cousin, grandson and friend to very many.

“He is so very sadly missed by all.”
