A magical memorial at Piershill

A CENTENARY memorial service was held at the grave of the Great Lafayette in Piershill Cemetery, as part of a festival held in his memory.

Isobel Skeldon, of the One O'Clock Gun society, talked about the illusionist's life and his demise in Edinburgh, in 1911. He is buried alongside his dog Beauty, who died four days earlier. Beauty died from over-eating, and the Great Lafayette negotiated a formal burial for his pet, on condition he would be buried there too.
