Lyle has skill down to tee

WHEN one of the UK’s most famous golfers dropped by, professionals at a Lothian golf course never expected to be handing out lessons.

But that is the position Musselburgh Links’ Kenny Armstrong found himself in when former Open champion Sandy Lyle dropped by.

He wanted to play round the Old Golf Course last week with a set of hickory clubs in true traditional fashion.

Mr Armstrong, who was on hand to advise, said: “Meeting Sandy Lyle came as quite a surprise. We joked about whether or not he required some tips on how to play with hickories.”
