Love is in the air for lemurs

EDINBURGH Zoo is playing match-maker after pairing a 12-year-old red-bellied lemur with a two-year-old toy boy.

Staff at Edinburgh Zoo are hoping to expand their collection of red-bellied lemurs by having their current pair breed.

The lemurs were brought to the zoo at the end of September and two-year-old male, Bonaire, was soon introduced to 12-year-old “feisty” female, Kala.Zookeepers have reported that the twosome have been spending a lot of time together and have been seen communicating and grooming one another, which are signs of a strong bond.

Red-bellied lemurs come from the African island of Madagascar.
