Lothian medics’ veteran care honoured

A SCOTTISH medical team has been honoured at a ceremony that recognises the “best of the best” in military healthcare.

The civilian team from NHS Lothian collected two awards at the Military and Civilian Health Partnership Awards, which reward care for the Armed Forces, their families and veterans.

The Lothians group’s scheme, Veterans First Point (V1P), came out on top in categories for mental health care and care of veterans.

Based in Edinburgh, the scheme is founded on the principle of veterans supporting other veterans and offers appointments, a drop-in service and referrals to a clinical team that includes a veterans’ therapist, counsellor and clinical psychologist.

The annual awards attracted more than 100 nominations from military and civilian medical staff across the country this year.
