'London Bridge' table for sale

A TABLE made of wood that once held up London Bridge is expected to fetch thousands of pounds at auction this week in Edinburgh.

According to a plaque on the William IV Oak Work Table, the piece was made nearly 200 years ago from wood that was part of the foundations of the old London Bridge for "upwards of six hundred & fifty-six years and taken up from thence in 1833" by the men who rebuilt the bridge in the 19th century.

The table will be auctioned on Wednesday, when Lyon and Turnbull estimate it will fetch between 2,000 and 3,000.
