Local Round-up: School hopes for fun in the summer sun

STOCKBRIDGE Primary School is hosting its summer fair today, providing pony rides, a barbecue and a host of children's activities.

Among the entertainment on offer will be face-painting, a bouncy castle, hook-a-duck and beat the goalie.

Toy stalls and homemade goods will also be available. Tickets cost 1 and 50p with all money raised to be used to fund playground improvements.

Marco Biagi MSP was due to open the fair, which runs from 11am until 2pm.

Get in gear for treasure hunt

FAMILIES are being urged to take part in a treasure hunt by bike.

The event, which takes place between 10am and 4pm on June 12, is being run by the Bike Station and The People's Postcode Lottery.

The challenge is to find ten cards along the north Edinburgh traffic-free cycling pathways.

Author dines out at reunion

FORMER prisoner of war and author Alistair Urquhart will be attending a Gordon Highlanders reunion lunch today.

The author of The Forgotten Highlander will be at the Scots Guards Association Club in Clifton Terrace to sign copies of his book.

The event begins at 3.15pm.

Cyclists are in saddle for charity ride

MORE than 200 cyclists are today taking part in a 100-mile challenge to raise money for a local homeless charity.

The event, for the Edinburgh-based Bethany Christian Trust, leaves Lasswade High School and takes in a scenic route of Midlothian and the Borders.

A shorter route of around 70 miles is also available.

It is hoped the cycle - now in its third year - will raise crucial funds for the organisation.

Care company scoops awards

A CARE company from the Capital has been recognised at the Scottish Care - Care At Home and Housing Support Awards.

Ardmore Home Care Ltd won Care At Home Provider of the Year Award and staff member Jane Gillies won Administrator of the Year.

Show your adventurous side at urban event

A FREE "urban adventure" event for youngsters is to be held at the Forthquarter Park in Granton.

The event has been organised by Active Schools and the Pilton Community Health Project for nursery and primary school children and their families. It will include games, activities, demonstrations and stalls, as well as football, rugby, a bouncy castle, Zumba, African drumming and a visit from the fire brigade.

It will be held on Friday, June 10, from 1pm to 4pm.
